Graduates from National School of Arts in Bamako

1950s

Assistant to Gérard Guillat, a French photographer living in Mali

1962

Opens Studio Malick, photographs sporting events

1970s

Shifts to studio portraiture and repairing cameras

1995

First solo exhibition outside the country at the Cartier Foundation, Paris

2007

Receives Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, Venice Biennale

2008

Bestowed with ICP Infinity Award for Master Photographer

2016

Dies in Bamako, Mali
