American born, Paris-based photographer Jane Evelyn Atwood (b. 1947) engages with closed communities that are formed by trauma and adaptation. Through immersive long-term exploration, often spanning multiple countries, Atwood offers complex and intimate perspectives on the lives of prostitutes, incarcerated women, landmine victims, blind children and others similarly excluded by social or physical conditions.
Among her most recent accolades, Atwood was decorated Officier des Arts et des Lettres by the Minister of Culture, France in 2022 and this year she has been short-listed for the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize.
